Conductive Hearing Loss with Age—A Histologic and Audiometric Evaluation

چکیده

A retrospective analysis to quantify age-related changes of the incudo-malleolar joint (IMJ) and incudo-stapedial (ISJ), analyse in air-bone gap (ABG) with age, was performed. Defined histologic parameters 153 IMJ 106 ISJ from subjects aged birth 70 years were correlated age. Additionally, audiograms 1760 ears 974 other 20 80 retrospectively analysed ABG The space (age group 0 10 compared 61 years) became significantly wider age (IMJ: a mean 44 µm 100 µm, p < 0.001; ISJ: 28 69 0.009. thickness cartilage incus decreased first life (IMJ, 88 65 0.01; 35 0.01). ABGs younger (20–40 larger at 500 Hz older (60–80 by 2–4 dB, while it smaller 3–5 dB 4000 (p 0.0017). Interindividual variations all groups large for both analyses. increased spaces could potentially reduce stiffness joints explain increase drop Hz. While average change is small minimal clinical relevance, seen some subjects.

Conductive Hearing Loss Due to Trauma

Hearing impairment is one of the most frequent sensory deficits in humans, affecting more than 250 million people in the world. Consequences of hearing loss include inability to interpret speech, often resulting in a reduced ability to communicate and delay in language acquisition. Untreated hearing loss may also cause economic and educational disadvantage, social isolation and cause stigmatiza...

Simulated conductive hearing loss in children.

Otitis media with effusion (OME) often results in hearing loss for children with the condition. In order to provide appropriate and effective audiologic management, it is important to understand the impact of OME on speech recognition ability when hearing loss is present. This study examined the speech recognition abilities of normal-hearing six- and seven-year-old children (n = 12) and adults ...

Conductive hearing loss produces a reversible binaural hearing impairment.

Conductive hearing loss, produced by otitis media with effusion, is widespread in young children. However, little is known about its short- or long-term effects on hearing or the brain. To study the consequences of a conductive loss for the perception and processing of sounds, we plugged the left ear canal of ferrets for 7-15 months during either infancy or adulthood. Before or during plugging,...

Audiometric notch as a sign of noise induced hearing loss.

OBJECTIVES To investigate the relation between different types of exposure to noise and a classic sign of noise induced hearing loss (NIHL), the audiometric notch. METHODS The study sample had exposure to both continuous and impulse noise and was drawn from a population of electrical transmission workers. Audiograms, taken as part of a hearing conservation programme, were read by three clinic...

Cochlear conductive hearing loss in patients with Meniere's disease.

OBJECTIVES Physiological studies with experimental models of endolymphatic hydrops in Meniere's disease demonstrate some pressure changes at the level of round and oval window. Interestingly, conductive type hearing loss was observed in some patients during Meniere episodes. A close auditory follow-up of these patients may provide a better understanding of hydrodynamic changes of the hydrops an...
